I'm looking for a WW2 Pacific game that allows specific things, without the rest of the game being bogged down in detail. I'd like to define the strike packages, and basic operations (course, search patterns, etc.), but not give a rip about how much coffee is in the galley.
An example was the original Avalon Hill Midway game. (Free from home of the underdogs.com). You controlled the course of the Task Forces, set CAP, defined the contents of the strike package and assigned the target.
I'd like a bit more game than that, but don't want to be overwhelmed with complexity.
    Anyone have a recommendation?

PC-based I can only think of Uncommon Valor or War in the Pacific from Matrix, they are grandiose games and have everthing you want but also the added complexity you wish to avoid (at least for WitP, never tried UC but its based on the same engine).
They also have a game called Carriers at War that seem less complex but of which I know very little about.

You may want to check out "Pacific Storm" too. Its got both
strategic and tactical elements to the game....
