    You're welcome!

This board is notorious for reviving and deepening war game addictions...

Fantastic AAR, Rimmer. Looks like I'll be squandering some of my upcoming days off on it.

I'll probably be a little more hands-on with the SS force; it would be interesting to play as the Japanese and take a more aggressive strategy vis a vis their submarine force; they didn't employ them to any significant degree against the Allied supply lines.

You've got about 20 posters following along on a free download game that can be played two players. The AI in Pacific War is not great - a pair of posters should start in on a human vs human game.

Not sure what you're talking about.

Problem is, their edition display and the explanation of editions are out of sync. Can anybody specifically say whether the boxed edition is a standard one with black and white manual or the color printed one?

I bought the download. The pdf manual is in color.

A dry dock is a device capable of floating a ship out of the water to facilitate work/repairs on the hull.

A floating dry dock is a self-propelled dry dock, capable of a whopping 5 knots cruise speed.

The USN gets 5 (IIRC). What this means is that you can put one of these with a few Repair ships in a forward port and have a massively faster turn-around time on repairs to ships.

To get ready for them, watch for their arrival date & port, and have a full set of escorts ready so the day they arrive, you get get them out to sea. I used one CA, two CLs, and six DDS to escort each.

Its weeks of sailing time from the Seattle area to the Solomons at 5 knots. But you will be glad to have them. Used properly they are a massive force multiplier.

The first turn is the worst, because you have to go port to port and base to base to see whgat you've got, and get it where you need it.

I kept a notepad handy, and jotted notes about cponvoy arrivals, new ship appearances, & the like.

Once you get a couple turns in its not bad at all-you've got a master plan in general form, you do a little here, a little there, and on to the next day.

The one-day turns actually help-in the grand scheme of things its such a short time that a lot of pressure is off.

BTW-if you play the USN, watch for the floating dry docks-those things are slow as hell & come in at Seattle or Portland. Getting them into position takes forever, so be ready before they show up.

Glad it helped. I have war in the East as well.

Feel free to PM me if you need any help with the mechanics.
