(Free) SAM (Surface to Air Missile System) Simulator
    "Realistic to the switch"

Includes accurate representations of history's most famous SAM kills...
...U-2C Spy plane over Sverdlovsk ...
...B-52D/G Heavy bombers over Hanoi ...
    ... F-4E Phantoms over the Sinai ...
...and the F-117A Stealth bomber over Belgrade.

    Systems included in the program:
    S-75M3 Volhov (SA-2E Guideline), S-125M1 Neva (SA-3B Goa), 2K11-M1 KRUG-M1 (SA-4B Ganef)
This game has got me hooked. I literally played it for one night straight; until i got quite good with the SA-2 GUIDELINE. The SA-3 GOA and SA-4 GANEF i can barely scratch the surface; the learning curve is steep.

This is a SIMULATOR, people. The atmosphere of the game is being in a tight, uncomfortably hot and noisy radar van; staring at your displays. There are more buttons and switches than... jesus i don't know! A nuclear reactor! Thankfully there are excellent manuals translated from the Russian ones and excellent videos; here is one of them showing you how to engage with the GUIDELINE

    With the GOA this time

Basically; it's a switch-for-switch accurate simulation of those three sam systems. The SA-5 GAMMON is coming soon; i can't wait but it's going to be the hardest of the three due to it's complexity and sophistication.

You can scoff at those old missiles from the Internet; but once you learn how to operate them and their inner workings you have a greater respect and appreciation on how these things really are wonders of technology; and military history.

Commander Nguyen Van Phiet of the 261/57 SAM battalion, describing how to shoot down a B-52. He downed three. (Brick 01, Tan 03, Scarlet 03) with SA-2 Guidelines/V-75 Dvina

See the drawing on the board.

You can see the exact same thing in game; try Linebacker II once you are good with moving and jamming targets i guarantee you will have a run for your money

..bloody fascinating alright, the Soviets spent a lot of time and effort in training their SAM operators in these systems. I guess you can appreciate how difficult it is to try and work out what is going on in a combat situation and why these systems didi not really work out for the majority of middle east owners as they simply never invested the time or money into regular and intense training..

My grandpa tried to do this, along with thousands of other Soviet specialists. He said the mentality prevented any proper discipline and education. Given that they were only instructors while the Egyptians only obeyed their own officers, there was little they could use as sticks and carrots for them. He operated S-75 and S-125 units in 1970-1972.

What a shame. It was really impressive.
