  • Harpoon HUCE Question

I am about to get back into HUCE. Can you (Herman I assume ) tell me what the difference is with the user database? Why do I want to use it, rather than the raw game?

Hi Duncan, good to see you back.

IIRC, the main differences between the Official and the User databases are:

    1) Errors are more often corrected in the user
    2) The user is larger. There might be one generic F-16 in the official DB, but there may be 10 different variants for each country in the user database
    3) If a user creates a scenario with the User DB, then you need to play the scenario with the user DB because if you use the official DB and it needs a platform only found in the user DB, then it might crash
    ScenShare Guidelines:

    1) Enjoy creating it
    2) Enjoy playing it
    3) Enjoy sharing it
    4) Enjoy helping others create them

Thanks Herman. And thanks for the help.
Do the canned scenarios make use of the user DB?
      Where does it get pasted?

The canned scenarios that come with the game use the Official DB that comes with the game.
The two files you seek are: commondb.res and commondb.rsr

If you decide to grab the userDB, then just replace those two files (after you make a backup) and you should be fine. (Sometimes, the *.rsr file is the one and the same and thus there is no need to replace it.) The two files should be found in the HUCE directory.
