  • WiC singplayer campaign review

Ok from the box we all know Seattle gets invaded in WW3 the first mission is set in Seattle where you try and hold off the defenders and whilst you play pop-ups come up to show tips on how to play the game more effectively. As you play on however you start to realize that the AI ingame are pretty much fish in a barrel as they charge towards you getting destroyed mercilessly and although the missions get more and more difficult as you go this game the campaign the AI really do let it down a bit and the missions always seems to be the same (destroy some enemy, destroy the fortifications and capture and hold control points).

Despite this being set in the cold war there are only 3 missions which feature in Europe (2 in southern France as NATO forces and 1 in Russia with US forces) and none in germany at all which for me was a let down and overall the Singleplayer campaign was too short and the AI to dumb although it's addictive and immerses you into the battle i give it 7/10.

The campaign was excellent, very cinematic, IMHO. The voice acting was also some of the best I've heard in a game. However, even if I do feel as though it was incredibly well done, there is simply a total lack of the nation that would have been center-stage for WWIII. No Soviet blockaide of West Berlin. No fighting along the Helmstedt checkpoint. And no Commie steel pouring through the Marienborn corridor. Germany, the flashpoint of the Cold War didn't receive any attention, and the attention Western-Europe was paid, wasn't in the regions that would've seen the greatest force on force confrontations.

Hmm my thoughts exactly i really wanted and hoped (after i bought it) that after the Seattle mission we would fight on in WG and retake Germany perhaps but still with such a story why don't we get told how the war ended? I can smell an expansion pack....

            Ahem!

The expansion has already been hinted too by (WiC-DevARZ) on their forums. On the other hand, I've downloaded multiple pictures and sat views of the Fulda Gap region. With the map editor scheduled for release toward the end of this month... I'm already in full gear. I've also modeled a few buildings according to the German terrain via 3ds Max.

Well, I'm doing my best. The same goes for ArmA, although that game has fallen to the wayside.

Because of my map thus far, I've actually been contacted Massive!

EDIT: I spose that puts an end to Germany conflict scenario?

Anyone up for starting a ACG clan? Clans are usually not my thing, a tad bit on the childish side, IMHO. However that said, the MP support is excellent, the best I've ever seen in-game browser wise.

Or how about an ANZAC clan?

Well, wouldn't the human wave tactics be in line with Warsaw Pact offensive movements, en echelon?
For despite the silly sayings about violence never settling anything, history IS changed on the battlefield: ask the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Let's hope our friends from behind the (former?) Iron Curtain don't read that. Even a hint of 'Human Wave' and fits of apoplexy are liable to ensue!!

I have just about finished the game. I am on the second part of the last mission, awaiting the soviets counter-attack. I really like this game, and besides a few annoyances, i've found this game to be very fun.

I could see where one might get a bit bored with the game, seeing as how most the missions are structured the same. My favorite mission might have to be the one in new york, it's alot of fun ripping thru ground units with helicopters!! I think the last mission so far is the one i dislike the most. Re-taking the harbor was such a pain because of the limited number of units i had.

I'm not sure if it's me, or the game has a slight balance issue, anti-tank infantry just shred all vehicles, specially if you have a few groups hiding in trees. And the medium tanks dont seem to do enough damage to anything.
