      1. AGEOD’s American Civil War (by far the best wargame released this year)

      2. SSG’s Battlefront

      3. John Tiller's Campaign Series (not really 'new' but heh, still rocks)

Hey Boonie- could you give a rundown of 'Battlefront' and 'Campaign Series'?

            I can do that.

Battlefront is diet "Battles in" ie Battles in Italy basically. Looks the same, but is a slight different scale. If you like SSG's games, it's a good choice.

Campaign Series, plays like a mutation of Steel Panthers. Same scale, and looks similar. If you're a Squad Leader fan, the game is a good choice.

            That's brief of course.

Yes, Battlefront is the latest development of the SSG's Decisive Battles system and is very close to classic board wargames. The main differences in Battlefront is a slightly smaller scale (battalion level) and a full scenario editor.

As for the Campaing Series, well I wouldn't compare it to SP or SL, the scale is one step higher (platoon/battery) and much less complex. It regroups all the games and add ons in the series, with hundreds of scenarios and dozens of campaigns on almost every battlefields of WW2.

Thought about it for a bit, yes, Campaign series is actually closer to Panzer Leader when I think about it. Although when compared with SSG titles or TOAW3, the significance is light. Both Steel Panthers looking and Campaign series looking titles involve seeing tanks as individuals for instance. And the terrain is closer to actually discerning actual details, as opposed to abstracted terrain symbols for entire regions.

If you liked the look of Battlefront, you owe it to yourself to check out Combat Command Danger Forward and Combat Command Desert Rats (currently Boku is being supported by Matrix Games).

These games are not as well known as other titles. They were over at Shrapnel Games for a good while, and I am not sure what the current retail scene is for it. But I think it is likely you can find additional details at Matrix Games.
