  • Music in Games

Music has always been very important part of gaming and there is a couple of threads about theme songs of movies and TV so how about a video game one!

The Max Payne series is a video game noir as well known for its dark story as for the slow-motion gun play.

The Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind

Max Payne is an excellent game, both I and II.

I really enjoy RPGs, this theme is one of my favourites.

Frederick William III of Prussia - The Napoleonic Wars Campaign.

Probably the only soundtrack I ever actively noticed...

Vandal Hearts was the first video game that I ever bought and it had a great theme song in Croatian called Burning Sorrow.

For sheer rawr, I find this still hard to beat - maybe it's over-rated by many , and criticised as such, but even now, years on, I hear this and I want to go kill 50 foot flying reptiles as if it were 2010 all over again.

It also has the best covers:

'I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.' - Thomas Jefferson

My first RPG, 2-D sprits and the battles could get repetitive but what a great story! And I love this song much that I would let the game pause just to listen to it.

                      Right on!

I also like Spy Hunter theme song. Can't go wrong with the "Peter Gunn" song.

Try playing one of the FPS without the background music. You will be surprised of some of the audio cues you may have missed on those games where stereo or quadrophonic sound is present.

“Something irrelevant in your life just happened and now we are going to blow it all out of proportion for days to keep you distracted from what's really going on.”

I usually turn the music off.

However, Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls have great opening soundtracks, and in both F3 and FNV I occasionally leave my Pipboy radio on.

Otherwise, music in a game is just annoying.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.
