  • Best Warlord Type Console Game

I just came across this awesome game called Kessen III. This is definitely an Armchair Warlord's game. It takes place in feudal Japan and the player plays as Oda Nobunaga, one of Japan's unifiers.

The graphics are on par, if not superior to, Rome: Total War. Units gallop across excellently rendered fields in realtime and although the action is arcade style, basic strategies like siezing the high ground, keeping your formation tight, proper setup for a good flanking charge, and exercising economy of force can still be practically applied. Command and control of a unit once it crashes into the enemy deteriorates and formation breaks down, making for an intriging and realistic challenge.

The only thing I didn't like is Koei's tip of the hat to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Officers can still perform magical attacks. So it isn't pure wargame but it's still fun.

My question is, are there any others like it in the console world?
A new life awaits you in the off world colonies; the chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!
