  • Unity! The French Revolution in Assassin's Creed

I was looking forward to this daily -- I got an Xbox One for my birthday because Unity is ONLY going to be available on Xbox One, they say.

I started playing on the Embargo Date, 11/11.

It's good. Paris is incredibly beautiful, as are all the Assassin's Creed locales. The pace is a little faster than any of the others, so far. I've decided to walk most places, not run.

Apparently French communists have complained that the game doesn't respect Robespierre!! Good, I was worried about the political slant.

You can buy weapons: I mean, with money. They call it "hacking" on the options list, but buy Helix Credits in advance and it's cheaper in real money than the prices in francs found in treasure chests. I, ah, went crazy --- I have a claymore sword and an short mace and a lot of strange clothing. You can play as a totally outfitted Napoleon soldier, if you want to.

The money in Unity is labeled "francs." That's totally wrong, of course: they used livres during the French Revolution, and assignats. I think it was a mistake not to be faithful to historical reality.
