I don't want to buy it lol, and it's not really necessary for the thing we're doing.

    Brod,

Just the fact that it is being discussed in a public forum means it is not being swept under a rug. Blithering idiots always seem to think what they do is special and should be approved by all. It can't get fixed if no one brings it up.

I feel the same way about the American Government and our Armed Forces. We spend a much larger percentage of the GNP than NZ does.

Yes, but they are our blithering idiots to be retrained as we see fit. On the other hand, they did deploy them to Afghanistan, have persisted with our peace-keeping activities per the UN, and tried to modernise and rationalise the armed forces. Being a small nation, big ticket items, such as naval vessels, can seriously skew apparent yearly spends. Another problem is that military equipment is not cheap, rarely works as advertised, and the suppliers screw you for parts. I would like to see a greater spend on such things as naval patrol and recce craft (air and sea) and a revival of the strike capability of the air force, but who listens to me?

What have you got against the Labour Party?

Yeah I know, we're just brainstorming.
