    • Ok, thanks guys. It was the way it came out in the photo....fuzzy, and it didn't make any sense at first glance.

Hmmm. Whole brigades of artillery. Think they're going to try a counterthrust in the area?

Doubt it, they've artillery brigades on the front for a while. Its no different than our Corps level artillery.

        • It's their Army artillery formation - there is no equivalent on your side. British Corps HQs also have arty, as yours do.

          • Can I have some orders by 1200 tomorrow (GMT) please.

Specifically what steps are to be taken to deal with the British destroyers and cruisers in the channel and what axis is to be prepared for the next phase of the attack.

After tomorrow afternoon I will be away from the game until the New Year.

I've said everything I needed to say in the PM I sent a while back, you can give him the final PM regarding the landings.

                    • October 4th, 1940 - Tun 26

Land. Tomorrow a major attack will commence in the Guildford area with the objective of pushing through to Newbury and hopefully Oxford. The front line is where it was in the last update, and I won't post a map showing the details of where formations have formed up, in case of prying eyes ;-)

Sea The Royal Navy launched a major attack which almost succeeded in breaking our supply line. Battleships converged on us from the North Sea while cruisers and destroyers pushed into the Channel from the Western Approaches. The Luftwaffe succeeded in dealing a heavy blow to the British by sinking the battleship Nelson and heavily damaging Hood and Rodney. However while our bombers were occupied the British light forces began harrassing our supply ships in the Channel.

The Gneisenau was sent to try to hunt down crippled British warships, but could not find her prey. There was a brief and indecisive engagement between our ship and British cruisers and aircraft, but the two sides soon lost touch in fog.

Gneisenau, with heavy air support, was then despatched to the Channel to try to relieve the critical supply situation. She destroyed at least a dozen British warships at long range with her guns, but the Channel was swarming with British destroyers and she was eventually out-manoevered and sunk. Two units of our destroyers were also destroyed in this engagement. The British suffered gravely with nearly 30 light warships sunk or crippled by our ships and our bombers. Thanks to this toll, our one remaining destroyer formation has managed to re-establish supply lines near Dover.

Over the next couple of days, Scharnhorst and Hipper will return from repair. The hasty nature of the repairs means that Scharnhorst will be lacking her third turret, and the ship will be at poor readiness ,but she can be used in an emergency.

A number of British battleships together with their escorting flotillas have sailed from Gibraltar. This is of great assistance to our Italian allies in their campaign in Egypt, but there can only be one destination for this strong force, and it is the Channel. Aerial reconnaisance also suggests that the damaged battleship Revenge has floated from her drydock berth in Birkenhead and it cannot be long before we see her again.

Luftwaffe Report Air operations in support of the naval campaign have been intense. Fighter and dive-bomber formations are tired and have suffered heavy losses. Nevertheless, we have plenty of intact formations, particularly of He-111s, to conduct operations in support of the offensive.

We sank a Rodney or a Nelson a while back, check your records.
I have been asking the LW to bomb Drydocks for a while... oh well.
As for that force coming up from Gib, what can those Pocket Battleships do to take advantage of that situation?
Is a joint German/Italian attack on Gibraltar now feasible? Taking that base could give us the Med. on a platter.

These things are represented by you guys getting a 75 Victory Point bonus - equivalent to a couple of towns...

As you mention the pocket battleships, I'll point out that the British *still* have several battleships assigned to convoy protection!

At sea, things have been more interesting. The Royal Navy has pushed into the Channel once more. Aerial recon spotted their heavy fleet units in the North Sea and we executed a strike with every available Stuka in Northern France and England, heavily supported by Me109s. We sunk at least one Nelson-class battleship and the British heavy ships have turned back - however RAF fighters were present in large numbers and we lost several dozen Stukas.

                            There were only 2 built.
Also, see posts 70 and 76, we have been doing a lot of damage, but it seems like we have to face the same ships many times, seems like the computer might have been made in England.

Poor guys, the RN's reputation must be in the gutter by now.

Perhaps these confirmed kills reflect that in reality, ie not kills at all . I'm thinking Yorktown.

I still think we are doing better than expected, and surprised we've done as much as we have . The KM and LW have been spectacuarly good so far, and the army will win it for us - perhaps .

Whoops! Afraid the Cristmas break addled my mind a bit and I put an account of the same engagement in two different posts. So you've sunk one of them, I've told you about it twice.

The naval model is a bit too forgiving in terms of the repairs that can be conducted. However, this benefits you guys as well, in proportion...
