  • "Ah, well Boss, it sounds like he said it was your call. Frankly, I think its just a silly rumor that all pirates are killed no matter HOW they surrender. Mitigating circumstances and all that."
    Brief pause.
"I wonder if the lady pilot that they are so concerned about can cook."

That was just a shot in the dark, but their level of concern showed there may be more going on than meets the eye here. And... it may make our guys less trigger happy then its all good.
My mech hasn't moved a millimeter since stepping out of Scopes's way.

    • Dragon hopes something can be worked out. The last thing he wants is the sight of no-good pirate offing him. A pirate wins his battle over a battle-hardened mercenary veteran? That's like an insult to every mercenary out there. Mercenaries are supposed to knock out the pirates, not the other way around. Dragon hates the fact that everyone seems to be circling his Mech, holding the power of life and death in their hands. But he has no choice other than to trust his lance mates that the Demolisher will surrender peacefully and get down to the business of salvaging the Mech parts off the battlefield.

      • McSwain simply says into his mic: "Alright son, power down, pop your hatch and come on out, and I'll personally guarantee to not turn you over to the Lyrans. That's the best deal you're going to get on this planet"

        • Everything pauses for a minute with the stand-off seemingly continuing, but suddenly the hatch of the Demolisher opens and a young man starts to climb out of the tank. Shortly after him the engine is turned off and the Demolisher powers down. The rest of the six man crew followed the commander and dismounted the Demolisher.

The battle known later as Raid on Timbuktu was still going on, but your part of it had now ended. With the loss of the mech lance, Demolisher and Catapult, the pirates had lost majority of their fire and striking power. Now only the fighting at the spaceport and elsewhere continued, but what you could hear from the comms, the fighting wouldn’t continue long, the remaining pirates were withdrawing already.

“Smiffy come here” You could hear on open comms the defeated voice of the Demolisher commander and the Commando pilot who had surrendered earlier started to make his way towards rest of the surviving pirates. Some of the Demolisher crew members sat on the ground while some stayed standing. Now you could see that the crew was reasonably young with few still being teens. The Demolisher commander took his walkie talkie and started talking on open comms.

“Thank you for promising to keep us away from the Lyrans, we aren’t exactly liked by them. I am Anton Irv, callsign Cavalier, now former Steel Talons pirate. What shall we do now, do you have a plan?”

OOC: I will give you this scene to solve what to do with the surrendered pirates before we move to the spaceport. So what do you all think should happen to them?

          • Once they've dropped their weapons, Chief McSwain dismounts his Blackjack. He takes note of the Commando pilot that acted with dignity and honor despite being a pirate and takes particular note of "Cavalier". He walks up to the lot of them, with Rainbow arrayed both mounted and dismounted around the prisoners. Still walking up towards them, with decades of practiced ease he casually draws his magnum revolver and puts a round right through Cavalier's chest. As the man falls, McSwain says to him "You shouldn't have threatened to shoot my man in cold blood if he ejected. Barbaric to threaten a downed warrior like that, hold him hostage".

He stops a couple paces away, Magnum still smoking in his hand. "All right, here are MY terms. I told that one I wouldn't turn HIM over to the Lyrans. I didn't plan on it, he chose to act without honor and there's a cost to that. The rest of you have a choice. You can choose to go to the Lyrans. Don't much care. You can say he spoke for you all, in which case well.....*shrug*. Or you can see about trying to redeem yourselves. You fought bravely, and *points to Commando pilot* you behaved like a MechWarrior should. You take the third option, you'll be on confinement on our ship. You'll be doing a hell of a lot of scutwork. You'll have no comm access and no weapons, and probably not see each other either. You show one inkling of going back to being a pirate and I'll personally shove you out an airlock. But if you redeem yourself, you've a chance of getting dropped off somewhere to make something of yourself instead of getting whatever treatment the Lyrans have in store. AS for those who decided to fight the Lyrans, not much can be done there."

              • I won't be able to be online as much for the foreseeable future. I should be able to get on in the evening for a quick update to this. I'm not giving up on it, just taking steps to use my free time differently and more productive from now on.

                As for the current situation:

I'll follow the general lead of everyone else with dealing with the pirates. Don't like pirates much, but I'm under the belief that almost everyone can be redeemed through hard work and discipline.

                • "... we have a ship?"
That's news to Marko, but he is climbing a hill to take a good look around. Maybe they can make one good Commando out of what is left of the two of them. We really need a fast-moving scout.
"Ah, a nice intact Demolisher, Zhao will be happy to see that."

But damn and blast, it sure would have been nice to snag one of those Drophips...

that way, we could go after the Pirate base for our next adventure.

                  • OOC: Yes, you do have Union-class dropship Metallic Bride along with hefty debt that was taken to buy it, this is why you need c-bills and don't have much to spend on acquiring new vehicles and mechs. I think I have mentioned this several times already

                    • “Jesus! You shot Anton!” Shouted one pirate before being silenced by his mates as Scopes continued talking. The pirates ranged from angry to shocked, but one rushed to still alive Anton Irv to provide first aid. Rest of the pirates stayed back fearing what Scopes does next. While Anton was kicking sand and in process of dying, the pirates listened.

When Scopes stopped talking, the pirates didn’t dare to move or do anything apart that one man trying to help Anton.

“Alright, we will follow you and come to your dropship, just no more shooting.” Said the MechWarrior others called Smiffy. He was bit older than the rest, but didn’t look older than 25.
“It is either all of us or just Anton and we prefer staying alive.”

                      The pirate helping Anton shouted.
“He might survive if we get him to hospital!”

As this is going on, you receive a message from your dropship.

“This is Crimson. The pirates are withdrawing everywhere, Lyran Command has ordered us not to pursuit them. Come back to the spaceport so we can evaluate the situation.”

OOC: One more scene at the battlefield. The pirates are willing to scrub the floors instead of being given to Lyrans. If you want to try to sava the shot pirate, Rainmaker can carry him on his hand, rest of them can follow by foot. Longer update tomorrow.

                      • I will carry him to the base for treatment IF the rest of our lance agrees to it. He's shot, he's paid a heavy price for his stupidity, if he dies he won't have a chance to redeem himself. If he lives, he can. If he doesn't, I'll shoot him next time.

                          My bad.
Union class.... IIRC, 12 bays for Mechs, 2 for fighters, Spheroid and decent firepower.
Sounds like a good choice, we may be able to fill up a few more bays soon.

                          • Scopes hears Rainmaker....and keys his mic.

"Negative Rainmaker. That one wanted to murder Dragon in cold blood. He paid his price for dishonor."

Chief McSwain turns to the other disarmed pirates. "Well, it seems that my orders are to not pursue. I suggest you get to stepping, Lyrans will be here before too long. But a half-dozen unarmed civvies can probably hike out of here. Leave him, he wanted to negotiate by threatening to murder a helpless warrior in cold blood. Don't much stand for that. The rest of you behaved with honor, so you get a chance. Find something else to do besides piracy. If you do go back to the life, remember, I'm merciful but I have my limits."

McSwain then steps back to Hailstorm before clambering up, his pistol disappearing into its holster. As he drops into the cockpit, he keys the external feed "You did your jobs, you lost, and you acted like real warriors about it. I've forgiven, not forgotten. You want a real job, not one that results in your execution by the local authorities, we might talk, but I don't have a lot of openings. Otherwise, start moving, you've got a couple of minutes to get out of range of my guns and not come back."

McSwain keys up on the Lance-net: "Rainmaker, Flower, head back to the spaceport, see what else they need. Advise them that we've got enough to make maybe a Commando out of this scrap and a Demolisher in good shape. Me and Exorcist are going to stay back to secure Dragon and the captures until our ground pounders arrive."

Keying up to Crimson, he says "Area Secure. Moderate Damage to armor. Dragon will require assistance but is still reparable. Captures include a fully operational Demolisher and enough scrap from two Commandoes to make a decent attempt at one. Recommend that you go for those two items and let the Lyrans have the rest of the scrap if need be. Those two will cover our need for a scout and I think that the lady would really like the big guns. Hailstorm and Exorcist standing by for security, Flower and Rainmaker en route to assist your end. Chief out"

                            • The pirates listen to what Scopes says and one of them goes to drag the person giving first aid to Anton Irv away from him. Kicking, screaming and crying the person finally relented and stood up and joined rest of his comrades. The pirate known as Smiffy nods to Scopes direction.

“I don’t think none of us want to work for you, sorry”. He says

With that, the pirates start walking away from the Battlefield. Soon they disappeared from your view.

As Rainmaker and Fragrant Flower made their way closer to the spaceport first thing they saw was the rising smoke and then started to see the wreckages. Several burning hulks of APCs and trucks littered the spaceport runway. One of the hangars was on fire, but luckily it wasn’t the hangar that was given to you. Several Lyran vehicles had arrived with pair of Commandos standing guard near a group of captured pirates. Fire Service was fighting the fires and first engineers with their vehicles started to clear the scrap away from the runway. As you made closer you were hailed by Lt. Zhang with comms.

“Welcome back MechWarriors. It seems you were successful at beating the pirates you faced. We got our own scrap too, blasted those pirates properly. Beers on one of you as you get to hog all the glory!” She said with a laugh.

You could see that your own hangar had taken some fire from the enemy. The sandbag and concrete walls were broken and few casualties could be seen. Lt. Zhangs vehicles were bit more lucky. They had taken hits, but nothing that couldn’t be repaired.

It didn’t take long for Lyrans to send a crew to investigate the battlefield and check what could be salvaged, allowing rest of the lance to move back to the Spaceport. Having parked your BattleMechs and escorted Dragon to receive medical aid, Metallic Bride returned to the spaceport after having played cat and mouse with one of the dropships pirates had and with that started the always busy period of after battle activities. The next two days were busy as everyone had something to do, ranging from calculating how much ammunition was expended to getting the salvage gathered into one place. The spaceport was full of activity from with Lyran soldiers, civilian contractors and even media milling about. This was a great victory against ever present threat of pirates. In addition of all this, representative of Timbuktu Merchants Guild and Lyran military wanted to meet you, most likely to congratulate you from your successful action and to solve who gets what salvage as agreement was 50%.

OOC: Do you have anything to do or say during these two days before we go forward and start solving who gets what from the salvage and what our Chief Mechanic Karlsson and Captain Harding has to say. I might be bit busy in next coming days, but I try to get the text out before Monday.

                              • Well... with the hits I got I have a good claim on salvage, but not much NEED. This gives me a chance to be a good Gent and make no claims... which could stand me in good stead in the future if things ever get reversed.

"Don't bother about me, and if Zhang passes on the Demolisher that puts us over 50% right there. However, I would advise against that. The Lt. could probably use a vehicle that can actually make a stand, and repairing the Cat and the Clint are beyond our means. I suggest parting with everything from the Mechs (except the more intact Commando), Use what' cash is left for repairs, and divvy-up the remainder?"

I know we have room for a Commando on the Dropship, even as a Hangar-Queen... but do we have a pilot for it?
