  • Bingley Arms (Eagles Deux Yap Thread)

It's the oldest serving pub in Britain (confirmed open since 953AD), but still a few centuries in our future. Regardless there's still a campfire by the road here where an enterprising brewer has set up to serve passing travelers and an unofficial (and entirely OOC) truce holds good.

The Yap thread for all OOC banter, trash talk and (ideally) questions after the game has started.

    Are all factions ready?

Constantine Corneu ap Conomar heard the news that Romans had left Britons on their own as he was staying in Rome studying after his long pilgrimage to Jerusalem and back. He tried to talk with the Roman officials, but after realizing that they wouldn't do anything he hurried back home. He knew that in the power vacuum that was just created, chaos would form and rise.

Having arrived back to his home Dumnonia, he is ready to do everything to make sure his people is safe.

Marcus Ambrosius is now in an interesting situation. He is in charge of the Isle of Britain, yet lacks the Troops to keep all the areas under strict command. He decides to do the best he can by delegating local authority to the local leaders able to raise troops. He has already heard from Rome not to expect more troops. Still, Britain is rich and has many assets. Trade with "Rome" will continue and hopefully will increase.

His last post from his family in Gaul was basically: "Son, you are on your own!".

Who will help Marcus Ambrosius defend the land from Barbarians?

Praesutagus stood upon the headland gazing east. The final galleys had departed years ago taking the last Romans from the Blessed Isle, though it seemed clear as yesterday to him. The Saxon Shore lay undefended against those invaders that it had been named after.

As the "King" of his people, and Magister of the territories of the Iceni his responsibility was clear, to protect his people at any cost

He had seen it before: the terror, slaughter, rapine, and chaos. The exchange of old masters for new. The slaughter of the natives by foreign hordes seeking land. Doubtless they would not be bought off anymore.

He sighed deeply at these thoughts. The Eastern coastline was vast. Praesutagus knew that the enemy might land anywhere on it, and the risks might be that of someone else entirely. He knew however that sooner or later his people would be pulled into the conflict.

He turned to a group of his men who were busily building the beacon pyre. 'It's going to be a long summer' he thought to himself.

These are the best barbarics we could find!

Khryses, I need a ruling on where minerals are located in our areas. We used the Ordnance Survey Map in the last game and I also have used the Mining in Roman Britain map. There seems to be some misconceptions about what is there. Can you give us a ruling?

              Hi Pruitt,

As discussed via PM, mineral locations have been abstracted in this game. Neither map needs to be referred to, individual Areas have higher or lower Wealth that you earn by Controlling it. Beyond that, economic focus is the only economic development you can make.

Only one faction can Control each Area, although any number can have a Presence there. There is no scope for joint Control, although any faction can pay another faction a clearly stated amount (not percentage) of their resources either once off or each turn.

How many areas do you need to control the Southern Shore?

The South Coast faction bonuses are determined “per Area” - you get them for each Area you control with a South channel-facing coast.

The Saxon Shore Control bonus comes when you hold 4 of 7 of the coastal areas between Norfolk and Regnum.

Interestingly the Raiders are eligible for this bonus too, if they can take the required areas.

I've heard from most factions in the previous 12 hours, once Gwent and Strathclyde check in we should be good to go.

Turns will typically be 1 week in length to account for all our disparate and busy lives and let us respond.

Marcus Ambrosius sends out the call, "Come with me as we defeat the Barbarians!. This means some Romano-British Troops may come to your area. Welcome them! Encourage your warriors to enlist! Join us and be our Brothers!".

Chieftain Iosephus Namathus screams at top of his lungs, "I am Britannia!"

The men of war cheered on and their swords lifted up in air as Namathus uttered these now infamous words. They were standing in loose formation and facing him on the hastily built platform. They all had war paint on their faces and armed to teeth. Many had slain a man or two but now this was something new to them. They're now prepared for something larger and more far-reaching than before - fighting for the heart and soul of Britannia.

Years after the collapse of Roman control, this tribe of Brigantes is most eager to assert control over its territory and believes Namathus to be its next great warrior-king.

So it is with much fanfare that Chieftain Iosephus Namathus enters the stage that is called Britannia. Namathus and Brigantes alike are ready to shed blood all in the name of Manifest Destiny, which they feel rightly belongs to them.

                          Very nice

Iosephus Namathus has (fairly dramatically) declared his independence, +1 Prestige from the Turn Event.
