  • The Mercenaries, Refrak Sector Information

    Refrak System:

    Refrak III:

Sector Capital and also most populous planet. Much of the planet is taken up with Refrak City, which covers the main continent. Smaller islands and continents are dedicated to agriculture in an effort to feed the voracious metropolitan area. The city is both the main commercial center and a major production facility. One of the major Spitfire plants is on Refrak, which churned out thousands of the useful gunboats during the war.

The seas are small, and mostly tamed for aquaculture.

Refrak III has one moon, which also contains major facilities for civilian goods, and a plant for the production of missiles.

There are a number of orbital facilities, all armed with at least a battery of light lasers for general defense. Additionally Refrak Skywatch is a massive orbital construct orbiting between the planet and the moon, housing a number of fighter squadrons, docking facilities for capital ships, and powerful weapons in its own right. Refrak also has several orbital shipyards which produce an repair a variety of civilian and military vessels.

The inner planets (I and II) are rocky and atmosphere-less, and have nothing more than mining colonies on them, while the outer planet IV is a gas giant with a dense asteroid ring. Mining companies have set up shop in the asteroid ring, a major production endeavor for metals and rare elemental gases siphoned from the planet.

Zatune II: One of two inhabitable planets in the system, it's just a tad close to the system star. Thus it is a very arid planet, much of it the "Badlands" a sparsely populated desert of soaring cliffs and outcrops as well as sandy stretches between. The elves of this planet are hardy, and very independent minded. The major exports of the planet come from the silica, copper, and uranium mines, which the planet has in rich supply. The planet has no orbital Skywatch facility, though the mining companies have several docking facilities with token armaments. Emerald City is the capital of the system, a dusty mining town writ large between two mountain ranges in one of the few places with significant surface moisture or vegetation.

Zatune III: The other inhabitable planet, it is mostly liquid water, and slightly far from the star. Large icecaps cover the poles, where the majority of the small population lives in colonies serviced by regular skimmer service. On the few islands and at sea the populations of seals are tended and harvested for their medically valuable organs. There are few orbital platforms, and few of them have powerful weaponry aboard.

Zatune III has a large moon which causes noticeable tidal upheavals near the equator, and has prevented the icecaps from covering the planet.

There are several small asteroid fields around the star as well, and one small rocky planet (Zatune I) with only a research outpost.

Jonov I is an oddity, having two moons and no planets orbiting inward. It is also the only inhabited planet in the system. Its two small moons are the commercial center, however, as the planet's endless foggy atmosphere can be a hazard to navigation for the inexperienced. Planetside there are several large seas, and much of the planet is thick jungle. Jonov I is a planet known for its dangerous game and untamed forests. Some say that half the planet wants to eat you and the other half is worth your weight in platinum. Indeed horticultural items and medical research are the planet's most valuable exports, though the locals do a thriving industry in both big game hunts and sell of trophy specimens. As there were really no suitably sized or situated cities to function as system capital, Jonov I's capital is aboard it's Skywatch facility, an orbital defense platform and administrative hub for the government. There are also considerable orbital construction facilities using raw materials from elsewhere in the system.

Jonov II through V are all gas giants, some with rings and some without, and an asteroid field orbits inside of Jonov I's orbit, where mining companies have taken to with near reckless abandon to harvest the minerals within.

A system without habitable planets, its gas giants are orbited by industrial facilities for the refining and smelting of the metals extracted from the large asteroid belts that orbit the one sun.

Taizu has one rocky planet and 2 Gas Giants in this binary system.

Taizu I is pretty worthless, being Mercury close to the sun, and mostly non-ferrous rock.

Taizu II has a moon that has a habitable climate, and was engineered to produce lumber from vast planted forests. It has a few large lakes of liquid water, but no oceans, and gravity is a bit light, running .5g. The trees grow large and tall in the reduced gravity though, and it makes harvesting much simpler.

Taizu III has an asteroid belt and no habitable moons. There is an industrial station in orbit there, which services the small time miners that operate in this backwater system.

Kaladria is a binary system, with a yellow star orbiting a black hole. Due to this, there is a lack of freely orbiting comets and others in the system, and navigation is difficult. Hyperspace travel especially requires precise calculations.

Kaladria I is a small rocky planet, could have been a large asteroid, and is absolutely nothing to write home about.

Kaladria II is a Mars-like planet, with 1.5g gravity, and has the site of an old colony that is now defunct. It was the difficulty and expense of hyperspace navigation in this system that ruined the colonists attempts to develop industry on this low atmosphere and high gravity world.

Kaladria III is a small gas giant, which occasionally in its orbit gets close enough to the black hole to have gas siphoned time this planet will likely be swept into the black hole.
