  • Sci-Fi Wargame, The Mercenaries....Cost of Doing Business

Here is the list of costs. This is in progress, so while costs posted are final, this is not a complete list. I'm going to start first with the most common recurring expenses:

    Personnel Costs:

Pay for regular and veteran: 500/mo
Pay for Elite and Guardsman/Exo-Trooper: 1000/mo

    Hiring bounty for recruits: 250
    Hiring bounty for regulars: 500
    Hiring bounty for Veterans: 1000
    Hiring bounty for Elite/Guardsman/Exo-trooper: 5000
(Hiring Bounty includes their personal gear)

    Equipment Costs:

Maintenance for Warships to 2000t: 5000/mo
    ..........to 6000t: 8000/mo
    ..........to 12,000t: 10,000/mo
Maintenance for Starships to 5000t: 2000/mo
    ..........to 10,000t: 3000/mo
    ..........to 20,000t: 4000/mo

(Difference between warships and starships is that starships have no weapons more powerful than a light laser or missile launchers and are primarily commercial in nature)

    Maintenance for Fighters: 2000/mo
    Maintenance for Bombers: 3000/mo
    Maintenance for Transports: 1000/mo

I presume that spaceship crews must also pay personnel costs?

Maybe we can get beginner's rates until we learn, the first couple of turns? The salaries add up fast!

My Crosley Class High Speed Transport is rated at 1400 tons as a vessel in WW II. I assume we will use the same weight?

I hope we get a few more job offers to choose from. With a crew of 200 it seems I will need at least 100,000 a month just to pay salary! If I add in maintenance at this rate of 5000 for a less than 2000t warship and 2000 for my two assault transports that means I need at least 7000 more!

Do we have a bankroll to fall back on? If I help train Militias, I would like to hire a couple Battalion Surgeons, at least 10 Medics and two Regimental Sergeant Majors to assist. Then I would need to buy some weapons to arm the Militias and my Trainers. That is at least 17,000 without counting more weapons.

          Interesting thread.

Discounting mercenaries for moment - what would be low but acceptable monthly salary for regular Navy crew ?

Presumably the "hiring bounty" below is what we pay for new crew members
and represents a "cut in the profit"..

but how much to keep our existing crew in food, grog and entertainment ?

It's not a complete list. I had to work 14 hours yesterday. So I didn't have time to do it all.

And yes I might show some mercy. I'll have to think about it.But maybe I'll give everyone an arbitrary sum as money they kept in the bank.

To keep them happy. ...it will generally cost the pay that's noted at the top. But if you are famous or something they might work for less. Or if you scrape the bottom of the barrel. Useful if you need fodder for an operation and aren't necessarily concerned with competence. ....

Oh....and note that anything not operating in that month won't cost. So if you are running your carrier for instance and you don't use your fighters. ...you don't pay their operating costs. I'll explain further for individual cases.

Also. ...aside from missiles the cost includes ammo and such. So in general some gear will be cheaper to buy but have a higher operating cost. But I'll have it worked out before the game gets started properly.

True. Also remember that most clients don't start paying for real work until they trust the contractor.

                              Well yes I do,

some rumours are bound to circulate but there's no need to leave hard evidence regarding my financial affairs -

I hear the Federation and the Kingdom's tax inspectors are quite a shameless bunch
