After a few more days of journeying, you come to headwaters of a small river. The boy indicates that his village is in the valley. Ayanda and Ali set the camp and check for signs of an interloper, while the rest of you discuss who will be going down to see this possible mage and escort the boy, as well as deciding who will keep custody of the stone.

(note, all players are suitably healed at this point....Nick is taking a leave of absence, so Bruno is ineligible for either role....he's extra muscle when needed).

During the journey, you've all noticed Wong behaving, well, more strangely than usual. While he often meditates, as monks are wont to do, since the battle at the village he has been carrying around several scrolls, and his meditations seem more ritualistic, purposeful even.
I will stay at the camp and keep the stone Let the magic using types and stealth types go to the village. I am thinking magic fights magic and the others are fairly versatile. Meanwhile myslef and Bruno can do a good job of beating off any trouble which may occurr at the camp. But if you guys want to do something else i am good with that.

    • Well, since Wong seems like an OK guy, I'm not concerned with what he's doing with the papers.

2 to go with the kid seems right, but we can't see the village from here, so who do we know if something goes wrong?
I suggest Mozenwraith as a 3rd, lagging behind, watching from a distance, and with a weapon able to intervene from a distance if it comes to that. He's also stealthy enough to avoid notice.

And, not mentioning this where the kid can overhear me.

        • -Bruno, Wildstar, and Wong stay behind with Ali. The stone remains in Wildstar's hands, out of sight and out of mind.

-Dremlar, Xangr, and Fitz escort the boy towards the village (I'm following the plan of the magically inclined dealing with this possible mage). Following separately, and at a distance, Ayanda and Moze scout for possible dangers. Both of them happen to catch their eye on an elf, sitting in the notch of a tree. The distance is quite far, and it doesn't look like the elf is making any move, then it glances right at Ayanda and deftly flips off the tree, vanishing into the brush.

-Unawares of the other party present, the escort and the boy come to a field near the outskirts of the village. The wheat crop, is nearly waist high on a man, ready for the harvest . In the center is a rather unimposing man, face hidden under a hooded cloak of some fabric, which begins to change from black to crimson as you approach. No weapons are visible, indeed his hands are not visible, folded in front of him. The man completely ignores you, and speaks to the boy, unmoving, "Did you bring what I commanded of ye?". The boy begins to cry.

-Back at camp, Ali begins to wonder where the others have slipped off to, though he knows that Wildstar still has the stone in his care. "Where have they taken the boy?" he demands. "Are they intent on meeting this wizard or some other foolhardiness?"

            • Aerie brought herself down to the fields below, keeping her patterned green cloak up as she quirked an eyebrow at these strangers. Relying on her training, she did her best to size up the group, noticing that it seemed to be a rather motley collection of individuals of multiple species. Definitely not something that was liable to pass through here on any given day. This definitely bore closer investigation, she thought as she pulled a scarf over her mouth to camouflage her face better before advancing as quietly as she could, attempting to keep out of notice and avoid making overmuch noise. She locked eyes with one member of the group, perhaps spurring her action to cover her face, but rather than suddenly bolt and grab his attention, she tried to melt back into cover.
Standing here, I realize you were just like me trying to make history.
But who's to judge the right from wrong.
When our guard is down I think we'll both agree.
              That violence breeds violence.
But in the end it has to be this way.

Alex tell Ali us up to fololhardiness. Never. while smiling. Alex then tell Ali that the others are returning the boy home.

                  • -Ali shakes his head. "I hope no one you liked went with the boy."

-Ayanda and Moze have seen Aerie, though they don't know who it is. Ayanda knows that he has been spotted. All other characters are uninvolved in this....Ayanda and Moze can investigate, or back up the group, or divide the jobs.

-Dremlar casts resist energy, feeling the surge of power through his veins. The man in the cloak inclines his head directly at the elf, his cloak shimmering crimson. "Do you mean to challenge for what is rightfully mine? You will not find your friends of help, mage."

"Now is NOT the time to go chasing after some Elfin split-tail, Ayanda." Moze' growls. "Our friends are about too start needing us, badly, I think."

I think they will be able to handle whatever occurs but why do you not follow up and see what you can do if trouble abounds.

                        • -Ali gives Wildstar a look of disgust. "What I do is not act rashly, nor without careful consideration. What happens in a sudden encounter is one thing, but if the mark is what I think it is, many careful days of preparation are needed, to prepare mind and body to the task, and to prepare what must be had to make it successful." With that Ali stalks away towards the forest.

Ayanda smiles and nods almost imperceptibly, counting on the elf's superior eyesight and natural curiosity,
