Sounds okay to me. Only here's the catch. I'm 53. I've never played DnD. I don't know anyone except you fellas here who've played it. So I'll follow along, and learn as I go. And yeah. I'd want him to be strong. Somewhat smart but not dumb. He isn't wise yet if he is young, or he's gifted. Dexterity? I am better than most at my age. But my firblog may be loads different. I'm game.

Ok, so say I want to play a Firblog, I'll roll up me stats, 3d6 6 times (3 6 sided die 6 times).

    Say that gives me a 15, 10, 9, 13, 7 and a 5.

I want my Firblog to be strong, so I give him the 15 in strength, since he's a Firblog he gets a +2 to strength (capped at 19) bringing him to 17.

Since my Firblog is young, I'm not going to give him muchos wisdom, so I'll put the 5 there.

My Firblog will also be somewhat dexterous, so I'll give the lad a 13 in dexterity.

and so on so forth, assigning stats as to make my character closest to what i envision for my basic dude.

end result would look as thus

    STR: 17
    DEX: 13
    CON: 9
    WIS: 5
    INT: 7
CHA: 8 (-2 for racial disability)

now I can build my characters story around this text. Keep in mind that 9 is dead average, 8-5 is below average, 3-4 is extremely low, and 10-14 is above average whilst 15-18 is entering world record levels. 18+ is superhuman.

So my Firblog is extremely strong ad somewhat manuverable, while not being the smartest of lads. So when roleplaying this guy I would remember he prefers to solve problems using force, rather than reason, and apply this in situations.

of course he wouldn't always use force, and he's not stupid or savage enough to just kill everyone to solve his problems.

the stats themselves should be self explanatory, Str is for physical limitations in terms of lifting and hitting things, dex is mobility and general ninjaness, Con is overall health, resistance to disease and poision, Wis is common sense whilst int is straight intelligence, cognitive power. lastly Cha is a characters likeability.

If you need more info on races just ask away.

This game is designed for those that don't ordinarily play this genre to be able to operate in without a big handicap. A lot of the technical stuff is simplified or in the background, and there will be challenges aplenty that can be handled without ever remembering 'stats'. The big things are to get in character and have fun....

Phew. That is a good thing. Maybe I can implement my Irish knowledge in the game. Hm. Maybe I can be a firblog secret agent.

Yeah, who would suspect such a thing?

If we need a Social Group for this, I have started far less than my quota.
But remember how limited they are, and how short the posts have to be.

A seafaring elf would be an npc. You can play a landser elf, they're not seafaring and are exotic, not rare.

                Terminology strikes again.
So, is rare fewer than exotic?

1st edition here, never did much with 2nd ed.

Which is the most personable of the races?
Is there are bard like character, ie a jack of all trades?
Are the classes standard DnD ones, or your own?

Some type of frontman or Elven Archer would suit me .

Classes are as follows, unless otherwise stated a character may be of any race/class combo.

                    Fighters

Lord- Proficient with heavy armour and 2 handed weapons. bonus proficiency with horse riding. Well received within their own nation and by nobility in other nations. Humans Only, the orcish version is a "Underboss" and must wear armour that corresponds to his cartels mineral.

Sword for Hire- Proficient with medium armours, chain-mail and the like, and sword and shield styles of combat. neutrally revived by all.

Spellsword- Cannot wear armour, augments his fighting abilities with pre-weaved spells.

Kensai- Strange singletons from across the seas. unknown how they came to these shores, cannot use armour, can only use one weapon (cannot choose form a selection like other classes) cannot use magical items. These are "Sword Saints", with their chosen weapon they are unstoppable forces of destruction. Ostracised but respected. Elves only.

Swashbuckler- Elves or coastal humans Only, Elves that have given up a life of the seas, usually brought up by human sailors. they are agile, they wear light armour and use light weapons. They are well known for being troublemakers. Well received by elves, distrusted by others.

Ranger- Usually in the employ of a noble, and set to protect a region of land, also commonly sheriffs and the like. They use ranged weapons, and can befriend animals and the like. not well received by some. No Elves, Orcs, Ogres or Goblins.

                    Priests

Cleric- devoted to one of the Norse, Greek or Celtic gods. they have no spells or spell-like powers, but are very wise and charismatic. they are allowed to use armors lighter than half-plate and blunt weapons. Humans Only.

Paladin- A warrior priest devoted to a god of war or justice (Ares, Tyr, Athena etc etc) Much like Lords, bar with inexplicable bonuses against the undead and restrictions depending on the god they worship. Humans Only.

Druid- A priest devoted not to a god but the spirit of a particular forest, glen or other spiritually powerful region. Total loners, they are able to command the plants and animals, extremely powerful druids are capable of amazing feats (such as making an entire forest walk etc etc etc). Halflings and Firblogs only.

Elemental Cleric- A preist devoted to one of the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. They are able to cast powerful spells related to their elemental province, and eventually become living manifestations of their element. Halflings Only.

Monk- Usually devoted to scribery and thusforth, some choose to devote their attentions to martial arts as a way of refining their souls, becoming impressive martial artists. Elves and Humans Only.

                    Rouges

Thief- Most basic of all Rouges, good at sneaking, stealing and stabbing things in the back.

Assassin- Gautiere Only. A special sect of the Gautiere, follow a strict code but get some mind boggling abilities, such as the ability to walk on water and climb stone walls.

Bard- The entertainers of this land, they have enough magical spark to use and make their own chits, they are proficent with 1 handed weapons are can sneak and steal. However "Jack of All Trades, master of none" is more or less their motto.

Spy- Masters of Stealth and Charisma. They are capable of sneaking almost anywhere, and where they cannot sneak they can usually talk their way out.

Magic users- Distrusted as a general rule, Humans, Elves and the rare Orc/Goblin only. Can be either a general mage or be specialised in one element or type of magic.
Task Force Regenbogen- Support and Paras

Perhaps our Elves should be called Sidhe, and the characters could all come from Tir Nan Og? We could be ship wrecked survivors, unable to remember how we got to this land? It would sort out our background, and why Elves and Giants were travelling together. Just a thought .
